About
From Pain into Purpose
About Mel
I’m Mel — a storyteller, a mother, a grandmother… and a woman who realised, quite late in life, that my attachment wounds started before I could even spell the word “wound.”
Born into a South London Caribbean household, I entered the world with a father wound already waiting for me, a mother doing her best while carrying battles of her own, and a family system where love existed — but so did silence, confusion, and emotional gaps big enough for a child to fall through.
By 11, I lost my sister Sylvia — the gentlest soul I’ve ever known.
By 13, my mother left home.
And me and my twin?
We were just two children trying to hold up a house that had already started falling apart.
We were just two children trying to hold up a house that had already started falling apart.
Life didn’t ask if we were ready — it just handed us responsibility, grief, and humour as a coping mechanism. (Because trust me, Caribbean children will crack a joke at a funeral if the timing’s right.)
For years, I moved through relationships, heartbreaks, motherhood, career, raising a family — all while wondering:
“Why do I love like this?”
“Why do I tolerate so much?”
“Why do I shrink when I should speak?”
“Why do I chase when I should walk away?”
“Why do I tolerate so much?”
“Why do I shrink when I should speak?”
“Why do I chase when I should walk away?”
Then one day — healing caught up with me.
I discovered attachment theory, and suddenly my entire life made sense.
The patterns.
The fears.
The ways I showed up in love.
The ways I disappeared inside myself.
The patterns.
The ways I showed up in love.
The ways I disappeared inside myself.
I realised my story wasn’t just trauma — it was a map.
A map back to me.
So I created From Pain Into Purpose — my cinematic, sketch-animated memoir and healing platform — to help others understand the emotional patterns they’ve been living with silently for far too long.
I mix truth with humour, depth with warmth, and healing with storytelling because life isn’t one-dimensional — so why should our healing be?
Today, I help people:
understand their attachment style
make sense of their emotional reactions
rewrite the story their childhood left them with
and find language for wounds they thought were invisible

Attachment Story
How This Journey Began
Growing up in a Caribbean-British home, love was present — but emotions weren’t always safe.
I learned to be loyal, strong, helpful, perfect…
but not emotionally protected.
Not seen.
Not held.
My attachment style was shaped early:
anxious, over-giving, sensitive, hopeful.
And that pattern followed me through relationships,
family dynamics,
and moments that changed my life.
Learning about attachment trauma
was the moment everything finally made sense —
the way I loved,
the way I broke,
and the way I survived.
That understanding became the foundation
for the entire memoir you’re about to experience.
